Abstract

The abusive or excessive consumption of alcohol is one of the largest public health problems that occur worldwide, it is known as drunkenness to the state of acute intoxication resulting from the consumption of various substances, including ethyl alcohol, which leads to various psychic, physical manifestations, evaluated and diagnosed through a clinical-forensic examination by a doctor, who determines the need to carry out or not complementary paraclinical examinations. Faced with this problem, we sought to establish the effectiveness of the various techniques used in Colombia to determine the state of intoxication by ethanol, identifying these techniques used and analyzing the scale used to catalog these measurements in Colombia; For this, a descriptive qualitative research was developed, compiling information and analyzing the various techniques implemented for the determination of blood alcohol. From this study it was known that Colombian laws have implemented a series of controls to detect the consumption of ethyl alcohol by drivers, for its detection they have opted for the determination of ethyl alcohol by exhaled air or by a medical evaluation in which is accompanied by the determination of alcohol in blood, despite this there are usually eventualities that decrease the effectiveness of its diagnostic tests, such as the lack of opportunity in the request for a forensic medical examination by the authority competent, little training of the authority in charge of carrying out these tests, lack of equipment, among others.
